Etowah Mounds Catersville, Georgia

Have you been to the Etowah Mounds in Catersville, Georiga?

They are located at 813 Indian Mound Road SE, Catersville, Georgia.

They have a large parking lot and I think we paid $2 or $5 to park so bring cash. I think we stuck it in an envelope in a box.

There are some picnic benches too.

This area is all in the sun so go on a cool day and bring lots of water. It is a long walk and then steps up the 6 mounds. There were a few benches but not many.

There are some interesting huts along the walk.

There is a museum but it was closed when we went.

From their FB "Almost every year, in July, we have an abundance of Dragonflies show up on the site and they get chased around by swallows. Around noon, they can often be seen swirling like a tornado between mound A and Mound B as they try to catch an updraft and avoid being eaten by the birds. This only lasts a few weeks. They are usually gone by the 1st weekend in August.

If you get the chance, drop by and see if you can ID the species. They fly fast. Some years we see more red ones and some years more blue ones. This year they seem to be almost all blue."

If you drive a little farther down the main roadd there was a great area with a lake that would be fun to see.

Their website states dogs are allowed on leash but not in the museum.

We also did Rock Garden the same day.

Historic Site Open 7 days 9 a.m.–5 p.m. (Mounds area closes at 4:30 p.m.)
