View from our balcony from our Marriott hotel room.
We spent 3 days in San Antonio. We stayed at the Marriott River Walk. We chose this hotel so we could have a balcony overlooking the Riverwalk. This hotel is older and the room defiantly needs an update, I think they were going to start these soon. There is no valet and you park your car underneath the hotel. There are carts to take your luggage up stairs. They do have laundry room on the floor the cars are on. We used it and easy to get to.
There is a newer Marriott across the street Marriott River Center attached to the mall, but no balconies there.
Left is newer Marriott Hotel, the right is one we stayed in with balcony.
We loved sitting on the balcony each night and watching the boats and the older room did not bother us at all.
We walked over to the hotel across the street to eat at Ruth Chris the first night. It is located right on the river walk as our hotel food places were closed. Food and service were amazing.
Boat Tour (river walk)
Purchase your tickets ahead of time for any public tour that leaves the docks every 15 to 20 minutes. Their Narrated Cruises run daily, 12 pm - 10 pm (weather permitting). We got an early one and loved how we walked right on. The later in the day, the longer the lines. This was right near our Marriott hotel and they have an elevator inside the hotel that takes you right down to the River Walk, so very easy. There is another area on the River Walk to get the boat too.
This would also be fun to do at night with places lit up.
River Walk This area has hotels, businesses and places to eat along the water.
We had lunch here one day.
Witte Museum This is a great history museum for kids and adults.
DoSeum This is an amazing kids museum. Highly recommend. It is close to the Witte Museum and a few others. There was an Ihop and Shake Shack near here we ate. at.
Alamo Get your tickets online ahead of time. We paid extra for the audio tour and glad we did. When they open, you will get a chance to get a picture taken out front that you can purchase the gift shop. You then get to walk in the building and will exit to the outside area. There is a gift shop here, in the back of the open area is vending machines (covid times) and near the bathroom was a interesting movie. There are seats here to sit to watch it. We walked all over the grounds and there are benches along the way.
There is a hotel near here called the Menger. They are to have amazing Mango ice cream that Clinton use to send to the White House.
Ripleys and a visitor gift shop are across the way, but I believe they are redoing this area.
Buckhorn Museum This is a great place to eat and look around. There is an upstairs with a little fun house area, lots of history and a big gift shop. You can get tickets online. There is parking via an app across the street.
You go up and order your food and they will bring it to you. There is also a bar here. By the bathrooms is a little arcade and they had a fun shoot the bullseye game.
Paris Hat Store Located around the corner from Buckhorm Museum is this historic shop. We randomly found this place that is world known and many celebrities go to, including the Pope we found out after we went.
We were dressed for a long day of walking around the day we went here, so not fancy. I do not like to say negative things about a business but am just going to tell you about our experience. When my son and I walked in I said we would like to buy a hat for my son. For the next few minutes I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman that I was not rich or good enough for the store which I felt the prices were very reasonable and were going to get a few, but my son feel in love with a hat and only purchased his hat.
We love the hat, just wish they had been more welcoming. They asked where we were from we told them Atlanta and then she joked about was there a cowboy convention there? I. explained my son always wanted a real cowboy hat, we saw this store and so I told him I would buy him a good one in Texas.
There are signs up that say no pictures in the store so I assume they must get lots of tourists, but sadly we were prepared to buy more but only got my sons hat as I did not want to spend more at a place where I could tell we were judged me by not being dressed fancy. The gentleman in the store was very friendly to us and let us take pictures after we made a purchase.
Did we get an amazing hat, did we love looking around the old store, yes just wish they didn't Judge us as we walked in and yes we could have afforded a few more and some boots.
Historic Market Square Ironically we went here next and well they must have thought we were wealthy as my son caught a man trying to steal my wallet out of my backpack. Luckily. I had my Travelon backpack that has locks on it so he did not get anything. Best investment ever! (Amazon Affilaite). I use. all their purses when I travel.
We ended up leaving this area after this as we had read about problems like this and we were right by the main area. He had a baggie full of cash so obviously he had taken from others.
There is a great place we wanted to eat at that everyone says to go to, Mi Tierra located here.
We parked at a lot across the street for $10. It has cute little shops and I wished I had gotten to look around and support them more.
Magic Time Machine Restaurant We drove about 20 minutes to this place. It has been here since roughly 1972 I think, and not a fancy place, but we loved it. Make sure to get there when they open at 5:30. The servers are dressed as super heros and will entertain you the whole meal. They will throw dry ice to make your table steam. Make sure to get the fun drinks with it in it. The food was actually good too!
Each seating area has a theme too!
They just randomly put this on your table to make it fun!
